Bio Clean’s Catch Basin Filters

In 2018, Bio Clean decided to attempt something that had never been done — Testing a catch basin filter under the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) filter protocol, which is a standard for media filters and hydrodynamic separators. In the summer of 2018, Bio Clean hired an independent lab, Good Harbour Laboratories, to perform testing on the filter. Testing exceeded all expectations. The overall Total Suspended Solids (TSS) removal efficiency was 86.6%. Over 70 individual test runs were completed and approximately 200 lbs of sediment captured, proving it can operate effectively over an extended period of time with minimal maintenance requirements. Zach Kent, VP of Product Development & Regulatory Compliance, adds, “We are very proud of this accomplishment as it proves we have the best catch basin filter on the market. Its all stainless steel production ensures a long life span. We don’t use cheap nets or fabrics like other manufactures that may cut cost but sacrifice quality and performance.”

Catch Basin Filter Types

Bio Clean Catch Basin Filters are available in four types. The Full Capture Type is designed specifically for meeting 100% full trash capture requirements in California. The Multi-Level Screen Type (MLS Type) is designed for balanced performance of all pollutants including TSS, trash, debris, hydrocarbons, and particulate pollutants. The Media Type utilizes a proprietary media mix for industrial sites that need to remove dissolved metals and nutrients. Lastly, we also offer our Kraken Filter technology in catch basin insert configurations.

History & Development of Bio Clean’s Catch Basin Filters

After years of research and development, Bio Clean launched an innovative line of high-end, fully stainless steel catch basin filter inserts. Kent explains, “We utilized our 20 year plus experience to design, engineer, and test a high quality insert filter that is fully customizable. What we got was not only a product we could offer at a reasonable price, but one that also has a user life of greater than 25 years.”

In 2017, Bio Clean launched that product nationwide in both curb and grate type configurations, and the response and feedback from our customers has been phenomenal. Bio Clean offers these stormwater filters in various configurations for all types/sizes of curb, grate, or combo inlets and various standard depths of 12”, 18”, or 24”.
